Economy Cake

2/3 cup Crisco or lard

2 cups boiling water

2 cups brown sugar

1 cup shredded raisins

1 tsp. Salt

2 tsp. Cinnamon

1 tsp. Cloves

1 tsp. Nutmeg

2 tsp. Baking soda

4 cups flour

1 tsp. Baking powder

¾ cup chopped nuts

Boil first all but the last four items for 3 minutes.  Cool and add the soda in a little hot water.

Mix in the rest of the ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 90 minutes.
