French Bread Breadsticks

French Bread Breadsticks

2 Tbsp. Yeast
4 Tbsp. Shortening
1 Tbsp. Sugar
5 tsp. Salt
3 cups water
7-8 cups flour


Combine the ingredients, stir well. Cover and time for ten minutes. Stir down. This is done five times or fifty minutes.  Turn dough out on floured board. Knead just until dough is manageable.  Divide into rounded strips for breadsticks.  Place lengthwise on a greased cookie sheet.  Slash three times to allow bread to fan out.  Let rise until double.  Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.
